Alberta Morning

Morning is a unique time of day. For some it’s when they feel the brightest, most well rested and down right perky, for others it’s more a case of slowly wiping away the haze of sleep as you ease on into your day. Whatever your unique disposition, Alberta Morning may just be the perfect elixir to get your weekday off to a great start!

Tony King takes over the controls of the good ship CKUA Monday through Friday mornings from six to nine. His mission - to deliver the perfect musical cocktail by blending an engaging mix of sweet and savory sounds that will have your ears hungering for more and your mind wondering what could be around the next corner. Whether you’re a fan of contemporary pop, delta blues, jazz, folk, or country music, Tony deftly creates an eclectic mix of music weekday mornings that may just serve as the perfect soundtrack for your life.

Ian Gray keeps listeners up to date on world events with CKUA News at the top and bottom of the hour. In addition, information on the weather is updated regularly and Wade Kozak from CIBC Wood Gundy shares what’s happening in the markets just after the 7:30AM news.

And if that wasn’t enough, new to Alberta Morning are the Breakfast Specials; Listen each day at 8:20AM for a unique treat:

Breakfast by Juan Gris (1914)Monday: In Their Own Words - from indie artists to old favourites, each Monday morning songwriters and musicians talk about what they do, and then Tony King plays a few of samples of their work (Thanks to NPR, CBC, and CKUA archives for providing resources for this spotlight).

Tuesday: Notes From Grant - Grant Stovel hosts a program called Notes From Home, airing Saturdays from 9:00pm to 12 midnight on CKUA. The raison d'etre of the show is to profile the ever burgeoning indie music scene in Canada. In an effort to cue up as broad a spectrum as possible Grant presents new folk, rock, jazz and the infamous "indefinable" with his characteristic intelligence and charm. Every Tuesday morning at 8:20 Grant shares his words and a pick o' the week with listeners on Alberta Morning. Just another enriching "fibre-filled" reason to tune in to Alberta Morning weekdays between six and nine on the CKUA Radio Network!

Wednesday: Discovery - Tony King plays hobbyist anthropologist as he unearths a fresh young artist, new to his ears, who might just become a new favourite. Words and music from up-and-comers, who just may become "heavy hitters" in the music industry, take the spotlight Wednesday morning.

Thursday: Welcome to the Hot Box - The Hot Box is a collection of CD's deemed "hot" by announcers, producers and library staff - it's situated directly behind announcers in main control at CKUA. Every week a new disc is featured.Go online to guess the profiled artist of the week.

Friday: Profile of the CD of the Week - a new selection featured every week, hand picked by CKUA Announcers. As a way of saying thanks to our ongoing subscribers, we'll be drawing weekly from our ongoing subscriber pool for CKUA's CD of the Week. Tune in Friday mornings to hear the winner announced.

Breakfast on ALBERTA MORNING, with Tony King, it may just be the most fulfilling meal of the day...Monday through Friday from 6:00 to 9:00AM on the CKUA Radio Network!
