CKUA celebrates the vocal classical tradition each Sunday evening on Bel Musica with our classical-music programmer, Mark Antonelli.
The program ranges from medieval and Renaissance music to modern opera, and balances solo and choral music, mostly through excerpts and shorter works. Mark provides a mix of music that promises to be both appealing to aficionados and accessible to listeners who are new to the sounds of the vocal classical genre. He notes the meditative and even spiritual quality of vocal work such as Gregorian chant, which speaks to and soothes listeners before they return to the stresses of the work week on the next day.
Bel Musica also previews performances of opera, choral and vocal music which are scheduled for live presentation in Edmonton and Calgary; the finest recorded performances of such works are selected for the program.
