Grant Stovel

In my pre-CKUA life, I generally stayed up all night listening to music. Nowadays, I'm continually awestruck by the good fortune that allows me to follow my natural nocturnal inclinations at the illustrious CKUA radio network!

I had been one of CKUA's team of Overnight hosts since 2006, and now host Notes From Home, a program that explores new Canadian independent music. This is also something rather close to my heart, as I'm acquainted somewhat with our nation's music scene, having been a drummer for a variety of roots and blues music projects since the early 1990s. It's kind of like that old joke… you know, "What do you call someone who hangs around with musicians? A drummer." Well, all that hanging around comes in handy.

I've also been a passionate radiohead for as long as I can remember. I became involved with broadcasting in the early 1990s, in my hometown of Edmonton at the University of Alberta's campus radio station, CJSR. I've hosted and co-hosted a number of different blues music programs on CJSR since then.

Other than music and radio, my other loves include reading novels, walking around our glorious province, playing hockey, being on the road playing music, and, conversely, being a homebody. As for ambitions for the future, I'm highly unimaginative: they've all been fulfilled already! I can only hope to keep learning and enjoying.
